FIRE and Living Labs - Future Internet by the people

The conference “FIRE and Living Labs – Future Internet by the people” was held in association with the Swedish EU presidency on July 1-2 in Luleå. The conference was a meeting-place of two strong communities: The FIRE community focusing on Future Internet Research and Experimentation and the Living Labs community with the mission to engage people, users as co-creators in the development of new successful products and services.

The conference and the workshops were open to everybody interested in research on Future Internet in the world, and in particular to SAC, FIRE and FIA (Future Internet Assembly) members.

More than 300 delegates of experts mainly European, academics, industry from ongoing projects and authorities, European Commission and international organisations joined the conference.

FUTURE INTERNET BY THE PEOPLE

Deputy Director-General of DG INFSO Antti Peltomäki closed the FIREweek 2009: FIRE and Living Labs 2-day conference in Luleå by concluding that the title of the conference was fully appropriate. Please find Mr. Peltomäkis speech here.

We have been a "family" for two days, but actually the whole week, 7 days here in Luleå, have been busy days.

Do you know what this is:

- 9 review meetings
- 8 project meetings
- 1 assembly meeting
- 11 preparation meetings
- xx number of new friends,
- yy number of proposal discussions
- a lot of good laughs and enjoyment
- too few sleeping hours BUT +30 degrees and nightless nights
- a moment of good life!

The FIRE community meets International Telecommunication Union - Focus Group Future Networks (FG-FN)

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have established the Focus Group for Future Networks (FG-FN) recently and will meet for the first time during the FIREweek09 in Luleå. On July 2 a FIRE-ITU workshop is organised in order to exchange some common experiences and discuss future plans.

The program for July 2 is now final. There will be three tracks with FIRE content, and three tracks with Living Labs content. Register today for two interesting days, and two nights in full daylight!

Lower price for project review facilities

In connections with hte conference, a number of project reviews are held. A common fee for facilities of app. € 200 is charged for all but the largest rooms.


 

Extended registration period

Registration for "FIREweek 2009: FIRE and Living Labs" will be open until June 24. After June 24th, an additional administrative fee of €100 is charged for late registrations.


 

Conference Program July 2

[2009-06-04]

The program for the second day of the conference is now being finalized. Three parallel FIRE tracks and five parallel Living Labs tracks guarantees an interesting day. The conference will be closed by Swedish "IT-minister" Åsa Torstensson, and the day will end with a friendly Social event in the historical environment of Gammelstad (Luleå Old Town).

Welcome to Luleå in July

[2009-04-01]

In this two day event we want to adress how FIRE and the Living Lab approach can work jointly together and to discuss if and how users can bring added value for Future Internet research to best contribute to European competetiveness and growth. The first day will give an overview of work in progress and results within the FIRE and Living Lab area. In addition ongoing Future Internet reserach in the US and Japan will be presented. During the second day more specific issues will be shared and discussed in specific tutorials and workshops.
